I like to fire people too, Mitt
01-12-2012

If you depend solely on MSNBC, CNN, the alphabet networks, and/or left-wing bloggers for your news, you probably haven’t heard that what Mitt Romney actually said was “I like being able to fire people who give services to me, if somebody doesn’t give me the good service. Then I want to be able to go to somebody else to provide that service.”

The liberal media (and Romney’s opponents) are a continuous loop video that just repeats the sentence fragment: “I like to fire people.”

Also, you may not have heard that he was talking about being able to fire insurance companies instead of being stuck with whatever your employer offers.

Not many of us like a monopoly. Yet you probably have to deal with them all the time. Don’t you love calling your cable TV provider? You know exactly what you want but you still have to wait for the low, soothing tones of the female voice mail recording to give you permission to press your selection.

She will not be rushed. You can’t politely break in say “I’ve already gone through 20 minutes of troubleshooting. I need a service call.”

Of course it’s worse when calling a government office. One of my best friends has had to deal with the Employment Development Department lately. The routine for that is start calling about 5 minutes before 8 am when their offices actually open. On the 27th attempt, you may get through. Maybe.

Mitt Romney

If my friend had a choice, she would definitely fire the EDD.

If I had a choice, I’d fire my landline phone company, my satellite TV company, my Internet Service Provider, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the county and state bureaus and agencies that force me to pay for a license for everything from my home security system to my professional practice. I wouldn’t merely like to fire them. I’d rejoice to be able to do so.

Dealing with each and every one of them is like swimming through Jell-O. It’s expensive and irritating and we’re absolutely powerless because the company or government agency knows we don’t have a choice. We have to buy their product whether we like the way they treat us or not.

Romney was talking about giving people a choice on their health insurance company. This and other aspects that increased freedom and choices were the Republican proposals for health care reform.

But I bet you didn’t hear about those before Obamacare was passed. The State Media (oops, I mean the federally licensed broadcasters of Obama’s wants and needs—ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, and most of the time CNN) spoke with one voice on health care reform. It had to be Obamacare or, or, or—seniors in wheelchairs would burst into flames while millions went without aspirin and adorable little children would be crippled for life.

That’s how they sold Obamacare to the people who bought it. It’s one of the oldest sales ploys known to man. Create urgency and fear, then offer the “antidote”: your product.

That’s what the mainstream media did and that’s why they hate and want to regulate Fox News Channel, talk radio, and the Internet. The Democratic Party wants its pre-1987 media monopoly back.

Mitt Romney

People are firing the unfair and imbalanced media in droves. They freely choose the broadcasters, bloggers, and print journalists who don’t lie by omission, the ones who, like the late Paul Harvey, tell “the rest of the story.”

Sorry to read of tthaers to Bohai Bay, we get some of their flagged birds – often Curlew Sandpipers – on passage here in Hong Kong. Also get some Aussie-flagged ones, but no records of NZ leg flags here yet; those birds must pass to the east of HK.Oh, and – BT. Godwit “ELT” is now 17, not 19 ( Yes, I’m pedantic)
