The 3D Age Just Won't Die. Re-releases Abundant.

Well with the almost overwhelming success of 'The Lion King' released in theaters in 3D, is it really a surprise that Disney is planning on doing others?

Actually Disney isn't the only one thinking about this, other companies are considering it as well. Like the master of spending and making money himself James Cameron. Talks of converting 'Titanic' has already gone into development. He's already spent $18 million on that project. Other studios have thought about converting some of their films. 'Top Gun' is a contender, and we all know 'Star Wars' already has been no surprise there.

James Cameron talked to The Wrap about the studio's reservations about re-releasing 'Titanic'. He then mentions that those "have pretty much evaporated" in the wake of "Lion King's" extraordinary success.

Distribution chief of Disney Dave Hollis also talked to The Wire about 3D conversions. "You have to make sure you have the right property, but we are working for other films in our library that could work".

Hm, I wonder what titles he means. The first animated film nominated for Best Picture perhaps? Beauty and the Beast would be a great movie for re-release. Like the Lion King, it has a huge fan-base myself included.

With that said though let's stop and take a look at what's happening here. Studios are more preoccupied with re-releasing old films in new technology then they are about making new ones. Yes there is money to be made in that, but is the 3D really what they're selling? I don't think it is. Well, for me at least.

The only reason I would even consider seeing a re-release is because of the experience. There are films that I never thought I'd see in theaters and now there are opportunities. That being said, being the obsessed freak I am, I would probably only see Disney films re-released in theaters.

At least out of those already mentioned. If films I enjoyed were re-released I would consider it. Out of the ones already mentioned though Disney is the only one that seems any good to me. 'Top Gun' although I've never heard a bad thing about, doesn't interest me. 'Titanic' although I like Billy Zane to no end in that movie along with Winslet and DiCaprio I am not a fan of that movie.

As for Star Wars, well I believe I made my opinion about that clear a few articles back.
