A Footloose Remake? Nothing is Safe! 09-21-2011 - by Michelle Lauren, Staff Mumbler Hollywood is littered with remakes nowadays, that much is obvious. 80s movies in particular seem to be susceptible to this. To prove that point they just remade Conan the Barbarian recently. Not to mention Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street as well.
There are just some movies I never thought I would see redone, or at least hoped so.
"Footloose" is not something I would immediately think of, but once I heard they were doing the remake I rolled my eyes. "Footloose"? Really? Did any of you who saw that movie demand a remake to be made 20 years later?
For those of you who don’t know "Footloose" is a campy, melodramatic rock musical from the 1980s starring Kevin Bacon. The film, although not a favorite of mine, is a decent cheesy musical. You know, in that 80s kind of way.
Now of course not all remakes are bad. In fact some of them are really awesome. Take Ocean’s Eleven for example. Not only did it expand on a heist movie and up the stakes, but it had an all star cast to boot. Little Shop of Horrors is another prime example of such.
So yeah remakes can be good, but for some things it’s just not worth it. Besides, it’s not like they’re trying to make something better than the original. They’re just making a quick and easy buck, since familiarity will fill seats unfortunately.
