First off let me answer the question you must be asking. Who is Roland Emmerich? The man in question is the director of big blockbuster films such as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. He also directed 10,000 B.C., 2012, and Godzilla.

In my experience in asking the common folk how they feel about these films, most say they enjoyed them. However in the more critical sectors they don't fare as well. Critics always bash Emmerich's movies and even user based community IMDB doesn't seem too kind.

His new film however is receiving early praise from critics. His new film "Anonymous," challenges Shakespeare's authorship of plays and poems.

That's quite the step up from Emmerich's usual game. His game mainly involves destroying American monuments with CGI. He also took a crack at beloved film critics Siskel and Ebert in Godzilla via painfully obvious satire.

Instead of using CGI to destroy buildings, Emmerich instead uses it to build them. So instead of explosions he uses CG to construct an intricate recreation of Elizabethan London as backdrop.

Yahoo! News goes into further detail of the film's premise. "The film posits that Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, was responsible for the remarkable collection of plays and poems that have made William Shakespeare the most revered name in English-language literature."

"Anonymous" had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday. The film is due to be released widely on October 28th.

Well I'm no fan of Emmerich personally, but that’s a bold concept for a film. It certainly demands attention to say the least. If Emmerich is branching out and attempting to up the quality of his films I can respect that.
